About Me

My name is Jennifer Hill and I'm excited to serve as the CKS Reading Specialist once again. I've been a part of the CKS community for many years, as a parent, teacher and parish member. I enjoy working with emerging readers and helping them become life-long learners. Prior to my position as the Reading Teacher, I taught Language Arts in both Vermont and Colorado. I reside in Williston with my husband and our twin daughters, as well as our Chocolate Labrador and Siamese cat. In my spare time I love running and cheering on my daughters in sports.
Reading Support
Christ the King School provides added reading support in grades K-8. As the reading teacher, I help the teachers assess all students in reading at the start of the school year. I use the Fountas & Pinnell benchmark reading test to find students' independent and instructional reading levels. When students fall below grade level, they typically join one of my small group reading sessions. We usually meet 3-4 times per week for at least 30 minutes each time. We use a variety of materials to practice letter sounds, phonics skills, decoding and fluency. We spend a good portion of time reading aloud from appropriately leveled books. We also play games with vocabulary words and complete exercises in comprehension.
Student Support Teams
The Student Support Team is comprised of parents, teachers, administrators and sometimes students. As the SST Coordinator I arrange the Team meetings and handle the management of the program. We meet as a team for a variety of reasons, including the need for academic accommodations, behavioral interventions and/or enrichment opportunities, to name a few. Meeting are typically requested by the parents, teacher or principal.
Academic Testing
All students at Christ the King School have a legal right to academic testing through Burlington Public Schools, should the Team decide testing is in order. As the liaison between CKS and Burlington Public Schools, I coordinate the Team meetings and appointments around student evaluations.
